Review - Becca Shimmer Powder

I haven't really been into shimmer powders or illuminators much, but that said when I spotted this little beauty 50% off at a store in Melbourne a few weeks ago I couldn't resist. (I bought it from Zuza Shop in Melbourne Central, for those in Melbourne).

The colour is called Angel, and is a lovely light pink/champagne toned shimmer powder which you can use to highlight cheekbones. It can also be used as eyeshadow, but I haven't used it as one yet.

I've never used anything from Becca before, but I had high hopes from it based on the many positive reviews floating around in bloggersphere. This definitely did not disappoint me. It's very soft and highly pigmented, and you'd have to use very little of it otherwise you'll shine like a disco ball!

At first I thought it looked too similar to the only other shimmer powder that I own, Glint from the Illamasqua Bronzing Duo, but when compared side by side Angel is cooler toned and lighter than Glint.

Right: Illamasqua Glint (from the Bronzing Duo)

Swatched on skin you can definitely see the difference in tones.

I must admit that I've only used this once since I bought it, and wasn't a fan of the effect. But in its defence I used it over a warm toned blush and this just didn't work. I think it would look great over a pink blush, to give a lovely sheen to the cheekbones. I'll use it in a FOTD one day to show it.

Are  you into highlighters and shimmer powders? Which ones are your favourites?

  1. Angel looks really pretty and gives a nice glowy effect. It actually reminds me a little bit of Dior's Rose Diamond powder which I use a lot to highlight. I also like NARS Copacabana but find it disappears quite quickly on my oily skin x

  2. I mainly stick to matte shades instead of highlighters and shimmery shades, but it does look pretty! I wouldn't have been able to resist half price either!

  8. @Nat - I haven't seen/swatched either of those, so I'll have to keep an eye out for them.

    @Di - yep, you understand the pull of the 50% off sale :)

    @Maryam - thanks gorgeous! x

    @Vintage makeup - thanks, i'll have to keep an eye out for it.

    @Becca - could it be you're also biased due to the name? LOL x

    @Tiffany - thanks hun, and yes I'll have to do a FOTD with this on soon.

    @Bini - I'm too afraid to try cream colours, worried they'll make me look shiny and not in a good way.
