Bourjois Bronzing Powder - a.k.a. the chocolate bronzer

Have you ever heard or read about a product being possibly discontinued and then gone into a complete frenzy trying to find it?

Well that's what happened to me when Elly from Ellysmakeupbag commented to me that the chocolate bronzer doesn't seem to be available anymore in the the country she's in, hinting that it may be discontinued. That was enough to send me into panic mode, as this is a bronzer I'd been meaning to try for ages.

So after visiting a few stores, I tracked it down at a local Target store. There was only one left, in shade 52, which is what I was after anyway. I don't know whether it's discontinued or not, as the AU Bourjois website still had this listed in their products list. And the few Bourjois counters I visited still had designated spots for these bronzers in their display cases, though they were all empty. So if you've been meaning to try this bronzer too, you might need to do so sooner rather than later just in case...

This is a matte warm toned bronzer that is "filled with glits of sunshine" - their words, not mine. There are little specs of gold in the bronzer, but it's tiny, and does not transfer on to skin at all.

I generally like matte bronzers for contouring, but I found the colour in this too warm toned for my skin to use as a contour. However as a bronzer it gives a really natural golden tone to the skin.

Here's how it compares to my other favourite matte product, Benefit Hoola, which is my HD product for contouring.

While in the pan they look kind of similar, swatched you can see it's warmer toned than Hoola, which will be a bonus for some people who find Hoola too muddy looking.

My favourite thing about this bronzer is the smell. It smells so yummy, of chocolates and coconuts. I seriously start craving desserts every time I smell this! Even the product inside it is made to look like chocolate. I'm hooked!

Have you used this bronzer before? What are some of your favourite bronzers?

Note: Flash used in all pics. I've been taking the pics in the evenings as I haven't had a chance to do so in daytime, plus the weather's so dark and rainy that flash is needed no matter what time of day I take the pics.

  2. That bronzer looks like a great buy! I have heard so much about it on youtube, it looks like a great alternative for Hoola to warm up the skin. My favourite at the moment is a Rimmel Bronzer, it has a nice apricot glow to it which is perfect for winter! x

  5. @Little Jo - go quickly if you want to hunt it down. I don't know if Bourjois are just too slow at restocking their counters or if it really is being discontinued, but I don't like those empty spots on the counter.

@Becca - thanks for the tip, I'll keep my eye out for the Rimmel one. I'm fan of apricot tinged things.

@Michelle - most people look good with a hint of colour, super pale is no longer the colour for me :)

  10. Im not sure if these are getting discontinued but I think I saw a couple of these at the Target at Broadway.
I wanted to get one for contouring but it came off too red on my face and looked muddy :(
I am actually looking for a contour shade like Hoola, a shade thats not so warm toned. At the moment i am just using a dark pressed powder foundation. I might have to get Hoola if I dont find the right one.

Re: I changed my comment system and so far I am liking it! Yes, I think definitely more interactive. I think you have a couple of choices and I went with Disqus. This way I can track replies :D

  11. I agree with Jac, "discontinued" strikes fear into the hearts of makeup lovers everywhere. I've been wanting to try this for ages too, I've seen Pixiwoo use it a bunch.
