January 2014 Empties

In all my years of blogging I don't think I've ever done an empties post. I tend to just chuck things in the bin as soon as I'm done with them, but I thought I'll collect all my empties for this month and see how much I really do go through. And wow, I managed to finish up quite a lot of products in January!  You know, pre blogging days (a.k.a. the time when I didn't have masses and masses of beauty products) I actually hated when I finished up a product. It meant I had to go spend money to replace it. Now I get such a huge satisfaction out of it, as it means I'm finally getting through my stash instead of being forced to throw them out when they go bad from not being used for years. Anyway, here are all the products I finished in January.

Yes, you CAN wear blue eyeliner!

The full title of this post was going to be "Yes, you can wear blue eyeliner without looking like the 80s threw you up" but it was a bit too long. But you get the gist, right?

Last weekend I was in the mood for some colour on my eyes,  but out of habit I ended up doing my usual defined crease/black liner look without even realising it. Then I thought why not add a line of colour above the black liner and see what happens. And the result? Something that I really love! Because of the shape of my eyes the colour isn't too noticeable when my eyes are open, but when I look down the colour just pops.

International Beauty: Slovenia

Welcome to the 2nd instalment of the new series on Makeup and Macaroons where each fortnight we'll grill a blogger from a different country with the aim to identify cult products from their home town. For the first instalment, Australia, click HERE

Today we're visiting Slovenia, a country I have heard lots and lots about because of friends, but never had the pleasure to visit... yet! Telling us about cult Slovenian products is Živa from Nothin' Fancy. Really.

Femme Boulevard - Valentine's Day Look

With Valentine's Day only a few weeks away we decided to dedicate this month's Femme Boulevard post to this most romantic of days. This year on Valentine's Day we're actually going to be at Gold Coast for a mini vacation - that's right, me, the husband and our 18month old son. Yep, very romantic! Actually what could be more romantic than spending the day with my two loves, right? Well, no matter what you're doing on 14th of February, if you need some inspiration here is one. I decided to do a soft and romantic look, but for other inspirational looks you can see my last year's post HERE.

2 Aussie Dupes for MAC Lipsticks

Who doesn't love getting a bargain? You're going to love these two budget finds that are potential dupes of MAC Lipsticks, and they're Aussie brands to boot! I love MAC lipsticks, but they're $36 here in Australia so finding a cheaper alternative always excites me, and these two alternatives cost less around $10 each.

Gold and Brown Cut Crease Eyeshadow Tutorial

I have a tutorial for you today using the fabulous Beauty Cottage Gorgeous Palette that I reviewed a couple of days ago (click HERE for review). Of course you don't have to use this particular palette if you'd like to recreate the look, you can use any similar shades just as well. And what's the bet you already have lots of similar shades in your stash? Well, on to the tutorial now.

Beauty Cottage Gorgeous Eyeshadow Palette - my birthday present from Thailand

I'm going through a bit of an eyeshadow palette obsession at the moment, and my friend Ebony knows this too well. She's moved to Thailand not too long ago, and about a couple of weeks ago I received a surprise package from her for my birthday - it was this absolutely stunning eyeshadow palette from Beauty Cottage. Thank you so much hun!

Beauty Cottage is a Thai brand which I'd never heard of before, but if this palette is any indication then if you're ever in Thailand it's worth seeking out. They do have a website, but it loads so S.L.O.W.L.Y. it was killing me, so I can't even tell you if they ship international or not. Anyway, back to the palette. It's called Gorgeous Shadow palette and I'd have to agree, it is gorgeous!

Dose of Colors Lipsticks in Play Date and Love Potion

If you follow me on Instagram (@lilitsblog) then you probably already saw me post some images of these stunning lipsticks from the brand Dose of Colors, which is created by makeup artist Anna (@makeupbyanna). I first came across the brand through Instagram as I saw various makeup artists post looks using the brand's lip glosses. Since I'm not a huge lipgloss lover I wasn't tempted to get them, but when I saw Anna had released lipsticks... well, let's just say I didn't have to think twice before entering my credit card details and pressing Buy.

The shades I bought are Play Date (milky coral) and Love Potion (creamy lilac). Both are very pigmented, apply like a dream, are smooth and creamy and smell of yummy vanilla.

International beauty: Australia

I'm starting a new series right here on the blog, where each fortnight I'll feature a blogger from a different country with the aim to identify cult products that are either only available or made in their country. With so many of us travelling internationally more and more, this is a quick way for us to fill up our beauty shopping lists, no? The idea for this was given to me by a family friend, who is also a reader of the blog, Kathbear. Thanks Kath!

For the inaugural post we're staying right here in Australia where we have Sarah from More Than Adored giving us the lowdown on best Aussie products.
==================

I love supporting local brands and I think Australia has some amazing products on the market. If you’re anything like me when you walk into a foreign store you get overwhelmed and head straight to the lip products or the nail polishes. They are both the easiest ways to change up a look according to mood or season. These three lip products are easily my favourite products from Australian brands and I feel like they are all unique to anything I’ve tried before.

Innoxa Antioxidant Lip Glaze: these are essentially a lipgloss full of nourishing ingredients so they won’t dry out your lips throughout the day. I’m not usually a huge fan of lipgloss but these are so smooth and non-sticky so I find myself reaching for them all the time. They smell amazing and have a great selection of shades so they’re definitely ones to look out for.

Shanghai Suzy Lipsticks: These come from an independent brand that only launched in August 2013 but these lipsticks have quickly become a hit in the Australian beauty community. Not only are they affordable with on trend shades; they are super pigmented and easy to wear. They come in two formulas: matte and nourish which are both incredible. The matte formula is beautiful, not drying at all and doesn’t drag when applying. The nourish formula is so smooth and hydrating on the lips whilst still providing a good amount of vibrant colour. These are some of my favourite lipsticks alongside my MAC lipsticks and that’s saying something!

Australis Pout Paste: These are a lipstick/lipstain hybrid and I enjoy these just as much as my YSL glossy stains. These are a thick formulation and possibly have a slight ‘tackiness’ about them but they provide a long-lasting glossy colour to the lips. The best thing about these is wear – they slowly lose the glossy finish and then slowly fade but not uneven or patchy at all! I can easily wear these all day and come home with a bold lip. They’re super affordable, smell amazing and are perfect if you want a lip shade to last all day.
L/R: Innoxa Lip Glazes in Apple and Guave, Shanghai Suzy lipsticks in Miss Sally Watermelon and Miss Jade Orange, Australis Pout Pastes in Pash Me Pink and Berry Nice Kiss.

Thank you Sarah for your tips! Sarah writes over at More Than Adored about all things beauty, as well as the odd lifestyle post here and there. She is currently at university studying to become a teacher working in retail and blogging her heart out in between. You can find Sarah on her BLOG, TWITTER and INSTAGRAM

I hope you enjoyed the start of these series and found it useful!

Best of 2013 - Beauty Products

Happy New Year everyone! Hope you all had a fantastic start to 2014 and that theme continues for the rest of the year.

I thought before I get into blogging about the usual things, I'll do a round-up of my favourite products for 2013. These aren't products that were released last year, merely things that I loved using in 2013. Without further ado, and in no particular order, here are my favourite 13 beauty products of 2013.
