Review: Neutrogena oil-free eye makeup remover and cleansing towelettes

I love make up, I adore make up, I wear make up everyday and I'm not just talking about a little bit of blush, a bit of mascara and a smudge of clear gloss.... I'm talking foundation, powder, blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara (loads and loads of mascara), lipstick... every day.

So at the end of the day I need something heavy duty to remove it all. Oh and I'm lazy, so I need something easy and quick to use.

Enter Neutrogena and Bellasugar to the rescue, who sent me these two products for review.

Neutrogena oil-free eye make-up remover (rrp $10.89)
This little beauty is strange... the liquid in the bottle is in two parts, kind of like if you were to pour oil and water together how they will never mix and one will sit on top of the other. But it's not oil. How do I know? Well besides the fact that the bottle says it's oil free, when you shake the bottle the liquids combine to make a magical potion to whisk away all that eye makeup that would make a drag queen proud. Try shaking oil and water together.... they won't mix. Nope. Even someone who failed science in school knows that.

How I use it
I apply a little bit on a cotton pad, then swipe over my eyelids. Easy. It lifts away all my eye makeup in a few easy swipes without tugging at the delicate eye area. Fabulous. It's meant to work even on waterproof mascara, but I don't wear waterproof mascara so I couldn't test it, however based on its performance so far I believe it.

It has a bit of a clinical smell, I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's not overpowering and doesn't bother me one bit. If I was to pick a fault, it would be that it leaves a slightly greasy residue, but you know what, nobody's perfect. It works. It works brilliantly at getting rid of eye makeup. That is all.

Neutrogena makeup remover cleansing towelettes (rrp $7.99)
I did mention that I'm lazy right? And I also travel a lot for work, which means I need something portable, easy to use, and above all effective. Enter these cleansing towelettes, which come in a pack of 25.

It's alcohol free, has a lovely fresh smell, and is super gentle on my skin. Meaning it's not scratchy and dry like some wipes can be. With the amount of makeup I wear I usually need two wipes to clean my whole face, but that's not a problem at all. And it doesn't leave any sticky residue on the skin, so if you can't be bothered washing your face afterwards, you don't have to. And let's face it, the whole reason we use these towelettes is because we're too lazy to wash our faces! Ok, maybe it's just me.

Would I buy these products? A big fat YES. Not only are they effective, they are cheeeeeepppp and you don't have to go far look for them. I'll be switching over from my current wipes and makeup removers as soon I finish those up.

Where to buy: major supermarkets, Priceline, KMart, certain chemists.

Have you tried anything from the Neutrogena range?

@Crosswire Dreamers - I'd never tried the neutrogena range but I'm very pleasantly surprised. They're quite reasonably priced too which is a bonus!

  4. These both sound lovely! :)

I find olive oil mixed with witch hazel works quite nicely as well.

  6. Both products sound great. I normally use Clinique's take the day off to remove my eye make up but I might give Neutrogena's a go when it runs out. Clinique's is pretty expensive! Thanks for the review x

  7. I've tried a lot of things from the neutrogena range, but never their makeup removers. My own blog is starting out and i've already suffered my first swatching injury (; w ; I forgot I had a second arm!) So a makeup remover has become a must! of the two, which is better in your opinion?

  8. @vintage makeup - oh that sounds nice, and very natural as well. No worries about putting chemicals on your face.

@Laiqah - give it a try babe, they're really good and non-abrasive on my skin.

@Nat - There are certain things I don't mind going cheap on, and cleansers are one of those. Seriously why pay so much money for something you're just going to wash off?

@Eden - Avalon - LOL welcome to the world of beauty blogging and getting you hands, arms and face covered in swatches! I think the wipes will be better for cleaning swatches as it's easier to use, but if you've used waterproof makeup then the liquid will be more effective.

  9. I love the makeup remover towelettes! I've been using them for months and haven't found a better product yet. Sometimes I use it just to feel fresh after a hot sticky day at home with no makeup :)

  11. @Sidney - oh I do that too, use makeup wipes even if I hadn't been wearing makeup (v.rarely, lol) as they're so refreshing. And agree, these are definitely the best ones I've used so far.

@Hannah - we totally should know better, but it's such a chore to remove makeup at the end of the day. Thank goodness for makeup wipes.
