Now that I've been blogging for 3+ years I know that the reality is most likely very different. At least for me it is. I thought I'd give you a glimpse into my reality that is blogging with a toddler in the house.
Let's have a look at the photo that I posted above, but zoomed out. Oh look, it's my son! Lining up his matchbox cars on my desk.
Right next to my desk is my son's play area. He's almost 2. And he has a love of cars.
I set up his play area there deliberately, the idea being that I could blog while he played. But that never happens. If I so much as sit down in front of the computer you can bet your last dollar that Luca will try to climb onto my lap and "help" mummy work.
An old photo of Luca but this is pretty much what happens almost every time I sit down to blog when he's awake - he insists on climbing onto my lap! |
As for those neatly organised shelves full of beauty products? Oh puhhleeese, they're all in boxes under my desk! Although I do have a system of sorts, so that the ones I must blog about by a certain date are in 1 box, the others where I don't have time pressures are in another box.
My desk is set up in our sunroom which is so bright and airy, but as you can guess I hardly use it during the day. I do the majority of my blogging in the evening when Luca is asleep, and if there's something good on TV then I plonk myself on the couch while keeping one eye on the box and one eye on the blog.
For me blogging is a hobby, I guess if I was doing it professionally then I might make more of an effort to have an organised set up, but right now this suits me. Because the reality is I have a toddler son and everything revolves around him, including blogging!
Are you a blogger? Do you have a blogging station set up or do you blog wherever and whenever you get the chance?
Love these reality-type posts! The photo captioned '2 seconds later' is spot on haha!

He's so quick, I didn't even see him grab the flower till I looked back at the photos, LOL.
DeleteI totally get that! I'd love to have a set up in my room, but the window faces south so the lighting is awful. I usually bung a dress with a nice pattern on the kitchen table and take photos there.
ReplyDeleteI do that too, and use pretty scarves and even wrapping paper! Whatever works ! :)
DeleteLoved the pics totally! xx

Love it....my desk is always covered in cars too as well as biscuit crumbs from my boys when they climb on my lap with a biscuit in their hands. A pack of wipes is always there too to clean up after they have paid a visit!
ReplyDeleteLOL, how could I have forgotten about the wipes. Absolute necessity with kids around.
DeleteNow times that by 2 and you can just imagine the chaos at my place. I blog wherever and whenever. I don't even have a designated spot for all my makeup yet except what I use on clients which is in one of those pro makeup cases
ReplyDeleteI feel for you! It's already chaotic with one little monster, can't imagine what that's like times by 2!
DeleteLoved this post, it is so true!
ReplyDeleteHehe, thank you! It's amazing what a little bit of cropping and editing of photos can do :)
DeleteCool post! Very similar to mine, and with a almost 12 month old running around, my blogging during the day rarely goes to plan either. And set up blogging area....haha, used to have a huge study, but ended up taking up the whole dining table in the family room - and now, living temporarily in a tiny and house while we're building a new one, means that I do most of the blogging on the couch, most of my stuff is in a complete mess in boxes, and I have great difficulties getting even half decent photos taken in the dark house.
ReplyDeleteOh my, at 12 months your toddler is probably just gone mobile therefore there's no sitting down and resting for them! Which means no rest for mumma either. Oooh and I can't imagine how tough it must be to be living out of boxes while you have a kid in the house. Total chaos.
Deletelove the pics lilit! I also thought, that a lot of bloggers have a special setup, nice organized products, like in pretty boxes and stuff, haha. Luca is such a cutie <3 / Claire xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Claire, maybe some bloggers do have a special set up but I'm definitely not one of them!
Deleteloved the post and the pics so much Lilit, Luca has grown up so much, he is such a cutie :)
ReplyDeleteOh that's such an old pic of Luca, he's even more grown up now! He'll be 2 soon, I'll have to post more pics of him :)
DeleteI love this post. I'm a blogger myself but sometimes it is just to easy to compare our life with someone else's edited version and then feel down about not being perfect. Of course what we see on blogs are only the best and good pictures, and we don't see the big one! I don't really have a blog setup, I do have an office in the house but I just prefer being in the living room with the rest of my family!
ReplyDeleteThat's absolutely right, sometimes we compare our reality with someone else's edited version then get upset that we don't measure up. Oh and just like you I prefer to be in the living room with the rest of my family too, rather than alone in front of my computer :)
DeleteI'm back to let you know that I featured this post in this week's Best of the Web post on my blog :)
DeleteBest of the Web
loved the picture !
ReplyDeletei'll never ever guessed that you used a chair to take all your photos
amazing !

Hehe, it's a pretty good chair! A great neutral background so goes with everything :)
DeleteLovely post Lilith. I normally have loads of work paperwork and books to mark everywhere when I blog
ReplyDeleteThanks hun, I suppose you need to make this fit in with the rest of your lifestyle and for you it means school work!
DeleteI wish I had the time and money to set up a blogging room/station. I just blog at my study desk. I haven't checked your blog in a while Lilit and boom! Luca is a big boy now! He's so cute.
ReplyDeleteYes he is, he's almost 2 can you believe it?
DeleteI LOVED this sneak peek so much :DDDDD And I don't even have your adorable excuse for my totally disorganised lackadaisical blogging ways, lol
ReplyDeleteMy fancy backdrop is a big-ass notepad of plain paper, and I write up posts in bits at any spare moments, always while doing something else. 'Click publish, do not proofread' is my metier :D
