Quick Beauty Tip #2 - making lipstick last longer on the lips

Dear Lilit,

I can see you love rocking bright lipsticks. What is your lipstick routine and how do you make sure it won't bleed and will last through the day.

Love,
M&M Reader.

Dear M&M Reader,

Why thank you for your email. Yes, I do love bright lipsticks and I have no magic formula for making them last. As you might know I like to keep things simple around Makeup & Macaroons. There is no drawn out routine of lining my lips, applying lippy, blotting, and applying lippy again. That just takes too long, and seriously who has the time? The only thing I do after applying some non-sticky lip balm (Neutrogena Naturals* lip balm is my current favourite) is apply concealer (or foundation) over my lips first before applying my lippy. Not only does this make my lipstick last longer on the lips, but the fact that it conceals my natural lip colour means the true colour of the lippy shows up. That, and I prefer semi-matte lipsticks that are highly pigmented over balmy sheer textures. That is all!

Love,

Lilit

PS: Here are some pics of my 3 step lip routine. Easy peeesy!

  1. Lilit, you pull off bright lipstick colours so well!! Good tip as I was also wondering myself how to make lipstick last longer. I have only started being more interested in lippies recently.

  7. Lovely tips, Lilit! I love how the light layer of concealer on lips, makes the lipstick color pop even more! :)

  8. Lilit, you are fabulous! I think I posted a similar question on one of your other blog entries. I am so glad that you shared this! I will definately try concealer next time!

I love the Rimmel Kate lipsticks, they are so affordable and they have a special scent that I absolutely adore!

If you ever have time to exfoliate, I love Philosophy's Kiss Me Exfoliating lip scrub! It only takes a minute and it makes my lips feel fabulous!

    1. Thanks Alicia, I'm glad you found the post helpful and let me know how you go if you try a concealer before your lippy. I haven't tried the Philosophy scrub, I'll keep an eye out for it next time I'm at the shops (I think Mecca Cosmetics sells them?)

  9. I just wanted to tell you that I did this this past weekend with NARS Niagara and it worked like a charm, I only had to reapply completely once after I ate over 12 hours! Thanks! Great color, btw.
