August favourites

Being a new mum (i.e. with hardly any time for make up!) I tended to go for easy to wear shades that required minimal effort to look good. Here are the products I used most in August.

Face
I didn't wear much foundation this month - I simply covered up my dark under eye area with concealer, buffed on some mineral powder on my face and finished with a neutral blush.
Clockwise from left - Illamasqua Naked Rose Blush, MAC MSFN powder, Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer - I'm yet to do a review on this one, but it's one of my favourites for brightening my under eye area without caking or setting into fine lines. It's a repurchase, which means it's definitely a good one in my book!

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural powder - I normally wear this over foundation to mattify without looking flat, but on good skin days I can get away with just buffing this on over concealer. It provides very light coverage on its own. I use the colour Medium.

Illamasqua blush in Naked Rose - this is one of my absolute favourite neutral toned blushes. It goes with every eye and lip look and doesn't look OTT. And because it's Illamasqua, you know it's very finely milled. Here's my full review of it.

Eyes
It was all about neutral eyes this month, as evidenced by my eyeshadow choices below.

Clockwise from left - Maybelline LOL Mascara, Chanel Illusoire, Urban Decay Naked2, Too Faced Natural Eye

Urban Decay Naked 2 - After neglecting this palette for so long I'm finally giving it the love it deserves. The neutral colours are easy to wear, and the addition of a matte black shadow means I can use that to gently line my eyes instead of using a liner.

Too Faced Natural Eye palette - I'm a huge fan of the Too Faced palettes, and this one with its warmer shades especially is great for everyday wear.

Chanel Illusion D'ombre in Illusoire - this is one of those shades that looks great worn on its own, perfect for the time poor (or the lazy!). Here is my full review.

Maybelline Great Lash Lots of Lashes Mascara - This is a repurchase for me. I love it because of the strangely shaped wand, it's pointy at the tip making it easy to get those little corner lashes. It's also pretty good at lengthening and volumising. Full review here.

Lips
I kept my lips fairly subtle with a little bit of shine. Most of the time I just wore lip balm but if I wanted a bit more colour I used the below products.
L/R - Face of Australia Mineral Lip Shine in Fairy Floss, Revlon Lipbutter in Strawberry Shortcake

Face Of Australia Mineral Lip Shine in Fairy Floss - This is such an easy to wear shade, it gives just a subtle shine, is non-sticky and feels very light on the lips. Plus I absolutely love the smell, kind of a sweet vanilla/honey smell.

Revlon Lipbutter in Strawberry Shortcake - I finally jumped on the lipbutter bandwagon, and this one has enough colour to make it look like I've made a bit of an effort with my appearance. No need to talk more about this since  the internet is full of reviews of these lipbutters.

What have been your favourite products in August?

  3. Congratulations!
I can't believe there's a dark circle concealer that I haven't tried yet! I don't get out much, lol. Really want to try the Maybelline Age Rewind now. Is the 2nd Naked Palette much different to the 1st? I have the original one but never bothered purchasing number 2.
    Great faves!

  4. Beautiful favourites! I really need to get that concealer, have heard so many good things about it. I have MSFN on my 'to-buy' list to try out, looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about. Naked Rose is such a great blush :)

  6. I desperately need a new concealer for under the eyes (the Mac highlighter pen ain't cutting it!), so I'll check out this one by Maybelline. No more clicky pens for me :(

  8. Beautiful colours, they all sing of spring! I like keeping my base simple too and follow the same ritual as you: Concealer, mineral powder and a bit of blush :)
