September favourites

I don't really do monthly favourites that often. Mainly because the end of the month always creeps up on me so by the time I remember to do a monthly favourite post it's already well into the following month. But here I am, with a September favourites post of stuff I've been loving lately.

Ben Nye Banana Powder review

I picked this up at Sydney IMATS a week ago. I'd heard a lot about it, like how this is Kim K's favourite powder for brightening the under eye area and yes, I had to have it. Along with oh maybe every other girl that was there. The salesperson was in fact trying to tell us all that the colour is not a suit-all shade, and that we should choose different shades to match our skin tone. Do you think we listened? No, it was the Banana Powder we wanted and the Banana Powder is what we got.

Femme Boulevard goes Seasonal

For September the girls of Femme Boulevard decided to go Seasonal, that is, do a look that's season appropriate to where we live. We were looking at doing an Autumn/Fall look, but since we live all over the world where it's Autumn for some, Spring for others, and others yet have Summer all year around we decided to do a season appropriate look instead. So for me that means a Spring look, as spring has sprung in Australia!

Now that the weather has been warming up here, I've been favouring a softer makeup look with fairly neutral lips, glowy skin and neutral eyes. Here's what I've been rocking lately.

Products used
- Maybelline Better Skin Foundation in Sand
- Maybelline 24hr Superstay Powder in Sand
- Illamasqua contour and highlight duo
- Illamasqua blush in Naked Rose
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Palette
- Maybelline Eye Studio Gel eyeliner
- L'Oreal False Lash Wings mascara
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Dark brown
- Bare Minerals lipstick in Speak Your Mind

Bare Minerals lipstick in Speak Your Mind

I thought I'd leave you with one other pic which has my little photobomber in it!

Don't forget to check out the looks that the other girls created.

The lower lash-line smudge

This is such a simple trick, but it makes eyes look so much bigger. I'm talking about the lower lash-line smudge of course, it's when you apply a bit of eyeshadow under your bottom lashes. Unlike an eyeliner, which may make eyes look smaller if applied on the lower lash line, an eyeshadow is much softer and creates the illusion of depth thus enlarging the eyes.

IMATS Sydney 2014 Haul

The International Makeup Artists Trade Show (IMATS) was on in Sydney over the weekend. I missed the one last year as we were overseas, so I made sure to go to this one even though I didn't exactly need to buy anything. Now if you're new to the makeup world, don't let the name IMATS fool you, it's not just for makeup artists, anyone can purchase a ticket and attend and for that you get access to many cosmetic brands at discounted prices, plus makeup talks and workshops by industry professionals.

This year it was held at the Royal Hall of Industries at Fox Studios. I went on the Saturday morning and only stayed for about 2 hours, just going from stall to stall and perhaps going a little crazy swatching. I didn't attend any of the workshops as I wanted to get back home before my little boy woke up from his nap. In that 2 hours here is the damage I managed to do.

Savvy Ultra Matte Lip Colours - worth every penny and then some!

I've been harping on about these Savvy Ultra Matte lip colours for quite a while now, so I thought it's about time I devoted a whole post to them. These are the cheaper alternative to Lime Crime Velveteens, so if you've always wanted to try the LC but not sure if you'd like it then give these a go. At around $7 each they won't break the bank.

5 Blushes Currently on High Rotation

Just a quickie swatch post for you today of the 5 blushes I currently have on high rotation.

Left to right, they are:

  • NARS Orgasm - a classic really, a shimmery peach that I ignored for about a year and now I'm loving again.
  • Illamasqua Naked Rose - this is quickly turning into my all time favourite blush, it's a neutral muted pink and as you can see I've already hit pan on it.
  • Illamasqua Nymph - this is really cool toned and I don't think I can get away with wearing it in summer, but at the moment with my winter pale skin this looks great.
  • Illamasqua Lover - oh... I just realised that 3 of the 5 blushes are from Illamasqua! As you can tell I love the brand. Lover was my first blush from the brand, it's a beautiful apricot shade that might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is mine!
  • LA Colours Mineral Blush in Just Peachy - it's another shimmery blush, a slightly pinker version of NARS Orgasm, and only a tenth of the price!

And here are the swatches in natural light.

What do you think of these blushes? Have you tried any of them?

Manicare Nail Polish Remover wipes - a travel essential!

Oh my god people, have I been living under a rock? Why didn't anyone tell me about those handy little inventions called "nail polish remover wipes"! Surely I can't be the only person in the world not to have known about them? They are an absolute must for travel, if like me you need to have your nails in top condition at all times.

A few weeks ago we went overseas on a 10 day vacation. I knew no matter what polish I wore it would not last a whole 10 days without chipping. I toyed with the idea of getting gel nails, but decided against it in case somehow that too chipped, then I'd be stuck on vacation trying to find a salon to repair it. #firstworldproblems #iknow

3 Ways to Use Nude Eyeliner

Nude eyeliner is a makeup bag staple. If you don't have one and need a reason to get one, here are a few reasons for you.

1. You can use it on your brows
You can use it to either highlight your brow bone, or clean up any mess in case you made a booboo when drawing on your brows (yep, that's what I use it for because my hand isn't steady, and the Dipbrow that I use dries quickly so the only way to fix any mistakes is with this).

Boe Beauty Matte Lip Creams

What can you get for $2? If you live in Sydney, you can get half a cup of cappuccino, and maybe a couple of soft-serve ice creams. Or you can get boe beauty makeup! I had seen boe beauty at my local Big W store (it's the store's own brand), but because of how cheap it was I kinda overlooked it, because you know, sometimes I too fall in the trap of thinking if it's that cheap it can't be good. Well, I can't comment on the rest of the range (which includes eyeshadows, blushes, bronzers, etc) but I can tell you that these matte lip creams are worth more than their price tag!

Inside my holiday makeup bag

Here's a look inside my holiday makeup bag. Gone are the days when I used to take 3 eyeshadow palettes and 16 lipsticks for a weekend away! Now I pack light. Over time I've become quite good at packing for a trip away and now only take items I know I will use. Here's what made the cut for our trip to Vanuatu.
