Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Foundation Review

I'm a huge lover of Maybelline base products - in fact my everyday foundation and powders are all Maybelline. I alternate between the Dream Matte Mouse and Dream Liquid Mousse depending on the coverage I'm after, and always set it with the 24hr Superstay Powder. These are all products I keep on repurchasing, so I hope Maybelline never discontinues them.

Well, I was in Priceline the other day as I wanted to check out the new Sally Hansen Gel polishes (OMG, side note, I got them - they're the best! Will have to review later). Ok, so I was at Priceline and noticed Maybelline had a new foundation range out - Oh hellooo! Normally I'd do a bit of googling before buying a new product, but after liking how it swatched on my hand I had to have it.

The foundation, called Super Stay Better Skin, provides medium coverage that lasts. It claims to even out skin tone, and make it look flawless and I'd have to agree to that. It's also SPF 14, so a bonus there. I use it straight onto my skin, with no primer underneath. I actually found that when I used it with a primer it started clinging to fine lines and not blending as well, however used directly on my skin this blends beautifully, makes my skin look smooth and lasts for at least 12 hours. I also love that the bottle comes with a pump dispenser, so much more hygienic.

Now to the name Better Skin? Why is it called that ? Because this claims to give you "better skin" after 3 weeks of continuous use. I can't tell you whether this is the case or not, because a. I've only used it for about 10 days, and b. I've already got fairly good skin thanks to a simple skincare routine, so who's to say whether my smooth skin is due to my cleaners, moisturiser or foundation? This would be a tough one to prove unless I stopped all my normal skincare routine and only relied on this.

I think it was the usual Maybelline foundation price of $21.95. This isn't available on the Maybelline website yet, so I can't confirm the price. Also only certain Priceline stores stocked these, so I think it's still too new and is being progressively released.

One thing to note, especially if you're a regular user of Maybelline foundations, is that the colours across the various foundation lines aren't the same despite having the same names. For example I use the shade Nude in the Dream Matte and Dream Liquid ranges, but the Nude for this foundation was far too light and pink toned, so I had to go "up" to Sand. I do wish Maybelline would make the colours standard across their range, it would save a lot of time in trying to decide what colour to buy.

What do your think of this foundation? Do you use drugstore foundation or do you prefer department store brands?

  1. This sounds amazing! Although I wouldn't rely on this to give me 'better skin', it's definitely nice that it's adding somewhat. Will definitely keep this in mind when I'm in need of a new foundation!

    1. Yes that "better skin" claim is a bit much, but ignoring such claims the foundation itself is fabulous! xx

  2. I always use drugstore foundation (for financial reasons!!). I've recently started using a Rimmel one and I love it.

    1. I use mainly drugstore too, and I'm very happy with the ones I've tried. I'd love to be able to use Rimmel ones but I can never get a good colour match.

  3. Been hearing a lot of good things about this! Can't help but be skeptical of the "better skin" thing though. I think better skin can only be achieved by stopping wearing makeup entirely xD

    1. Haha, yes a bit ironic to think that foundation can give you better skin, right? But they must have some proof of it otherwise they wouldn't be allowed to claim it! That said, the foundation itself is great!

  4. Its been years since I've tried a Maybelline foundation. I think I was turned off their base products cause I found the foundations were usually too pink for me. I should give them another shot though. I like drugstore and high end. Drugstore I like Rimmel and Garnier BB creams and for high end I like NARS or MAC.

    1. You definitely need to check out Maybelline as there are lots of yellow toned ones now (I need yellow tones). Funny though as I find all the Rimmel shades too pink for me, the ones that are slightly yellow are too light and ones that are dark enough for my skin tone are too pink!
