Lipstick Tales: Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet liquid lipstick in Ole Flamingo

When I first came across the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet liquid lipsticks at Priceline a couple of weeks ago I had read absolutely nothing about them, so didn't know what to expect. Yes, I know they're all over the blogosphere but I haven't had a chance to do much blog reading lately, so I went in blind when purchasing it, and hoping for a fantastic product. I got the colour Ole Flamingo 05 because I never learn, and keep adding more and more bright shades to my collection.

This liquid lipstick applies very smoothly, and is highly pigmented. It also feels really lightweight on the lips and is non-drying. I was actually expecting this to dry matte and budge proof like the Lime Crime Velveteens and the Australis Velourlips range so I was a little bit disappointed it wasn't the case. It stayed kind of creamy on my lips for about an hour, after which time the gloss was gone and I was left with a stain.
After 30mins of wear - still somewhat glossy but starting to bunch up around the inside of my lips.

This claims to last 24hrs but I'd have to disagree. I found after an hour it started bleeding on me, after 2 hours most of the glossiness was gone and I was left with a deep raspberry stain. Personally I'm not a fan of stains, but I can see the appeal. I guess it's the stain bit that lasts 24hrs? Who knows, I ended up taking it off after a few of hours of wear because I definitely don't want my lipstick to last day and night.

{A personal bug bear of mine is when cosmetic companies claim that a product lasts 24hrs, which this does. Dear cosmetic companies, can we stop it with such claims? Seriously, who needs their makeup to last that long? And besides, none of the 24hr range products I've tried have lasted longer than 12hrs let alone 24hrs. So please, stop it, we don't need cosmetics to last a whole day and night on our faces. Ok, whinge finished.}

These retail for $24 which is on the higher end of the "drugstore" price. As cute as the packaging is, and as gorgeous as the shade is, this is not a must have for me.

Have you tried these liquid lipsticks? How do you feel about them? Do you like liquid lipsticks in general?

  1. I saw Ole Flamingo on a salesgirl who worked inside of Priceline and immediately asked her what she was wearing. Yet, once I saw the price tag I walked away empty-handed; $24 is too much for a drugstore beauty brand. Pass.

    1. The colour is gorgeous, but the price tag and the fact it didn't last that well on me means I won't be repurchasing it. Ok, maybe if I can get it on sale really really cheap I might get a couple more colours :)

  2. I have to say, I really like these and the fact that they aren't at all drying on me. I prefer the soft matte finish too. I totally agree with you about the price though! $24 is absolutely ridiculous, I'm so glad I got mine on sale for $10. Also I TOTALLY agree with the 24hr claim thing like ???

  3. This is a gorgeous shade but I probably wouldn't splurge $24 on a drugstore brand!

    And YES to 24 hours claim! Who needs them???

  4. I have 4 of these which I got during the $10 sale. I think certain shades perform better than others to be honest. I'll have to keep playing around with them. That colour is gorgeous though!

  6. Hmmm, seems these velvet rouge can be a hit or a miss. I have 4 of them and I love 3 out of 4, yet two of them are really hard to work with. Frambourjoise stays on my lips for good 8 hours :)
    Hope you'll feel in love with it...with time.

  8. Awww I really like this one, and this colour too! 'Tis a pity it didn't last well on you but yeah I do have to agree, the stain lasts quite long. And that 24 hour B.S? Seriously, who needs their lipstick to last 24 hours??
