My top 5 contour products

I'm a huge fan of contouring, in fact I contour my face pretty much every day. Without contouring I have a fairly round face, but with a bit of matte bronzer my face is slimmed down and helloooo cheekbones! Anyway, here are my top 5 contour products (one of which needs replacing stat!). The reason I have 5 on the go is because I interchange them depending on the season, and whether I have a tan or not.

Top 5 Contour Products
The book in the photo is About Face by Scott Barnes

NARS Laguna - I'd classify this as a summer contour product as the warmer tones of this bronzer can tend to look orange in the cool summer light. It has a slight shimmer but this doesn't translate onto the skin so it's good to contour with.

Elizabeth Arden Bronzing Duo in Bronze Beauty (the darker shade) - similar to NARS Laguna I'm putting this in my summer makeup bag. The powder is very finely milled and quite pigmented, so a light touch is necessary otherwise you can end up with too much product. I also use this as an all over bronzer, but I generally swirl my brush around both shades to get the right colour for my skintone. (press sample)

Bourjois Bronzing Powder in #52 - This isn't as pigmented as the 2 above, but that's great for novices who are worried about using too much product. What I love most about this powder is the smell, it smells of chocolate! Yummm... This is also a summer bronzer, but I also tend to use this mainly when travelling as the cardboard packaging is lightweight and the slim design doesn't take up any space.

L.A. Colors Mineral Pressed Powder in Warm Caramel - this is just a pressed powder but several shades darker than my skin tone. I use this mainly in winter, as I find this the most natural contour colour for my pale winter skin. This is so soft and buttery, I always want to use more than I should because of how lovely it feels when I apply it.

Benefit Hoola - this is hands down the best contour product out there. As you can see from the state of my Hoola box, I use this one the most. The colour is a neutral mid toned brown which makes it perfect no matter the weather. As a bronzer I'd say this is too muddy, as a contour product it's pure perfection.

The most important thing to look for in a contour product is that it needs to be the right tone for your skin, and have no shine or shimmer. And then blend blend blend because, well, which one below would you rather look like?
Left: Lindsay Lohan, what were you thinking?
Right: Love her or hate her, Kim Kardashian always has a perfectly contoured face

Do you use contouring products?
If yes, which is your favourite?

  2. Okay, I have never contoured, despite desperately wishing I did, because I am terrified of looking like Lindsay! I have no idea how to do it properly. And I'd love some cheekbones!! Xx

    1. Maybe instead of a bronzer use a dark pressed powder, and the key is blend blend blend. Suck in your cheeks and just apply the powder under your cheekbones. Maybe I should do a tutorial!

    2. Would love a tutorial! I don't know how to contour, but my very round face could use some slimming!

    1. Hoola is absolutely the most perfect colour for contouring, I think it would suit a lot of skin tones as well. Ooh I've never used it on my eyes, I usually use MAC Moleskin e/s for my eyes but Hoola would be perfect! thanks for the tip :)

    1. I can see how the darker MSF would be great for bronzing, as they're very finelly milled so they'll be easy to apply!
