So many mascaras....

There used to be a time when I only ever had one mascara on the go at any one time. At a max I might have had two on the go if one was about to finish and I had just opened up the back up one. But lately my every day makeup box has been overflowing with mascaras! Some are samples, some I'd bought and forgotten about, and some were magazine freebies (ooh I love a magazine freebie!).

Anyway, here are all the mascaras I have on the go at the moment, with a mini review to boot. If you'd like more detail about any of the mascaras let me know and I can do a full review. All mascaras are in Black (or blackest black, very black, etc).
1. Essence Get Big Lashes Mascara
This was an OK mascara, but the brush was high maintenance. I found the brush too big to use and kept smudging mascara all over my lids. It required extreme care in the application process so as not to make a mess. Also it was difficult to get to the smaller and corner lashes due to the brush size.
Repurchase? NO

2. L'Oreal False Lash Telescopic Mascara*
This promises to give great length, which it does to a degree, but I also find it clumps my lashes together and gives me spidery lashes. BUT... this is great for layering over a volumising mascara to give lashes some definition. It's also great at catching individual lashes at the outer corners, and also on bottom lashes. Overall I expected a bit more from this mascara as at $27AUD this is at the pricier end of the "drugstore" scale.
Repurchase? NO

3. Rimmel Volumflash Scandaleyes Mascara
This has an extremely large wand which I found uncomfortable to use. Even though my lashes are fairly long and I don't have trouble with large wands, this one just ended up smearing mascara all over my lids. I have to be very very careful when using this so I don't make a mess. Overall it does give nice volume to my lashes, but the size of the wand makes it a No from me.
Repurchase? NO

4. Modelco Fibre Lashextend Mascara
This was a magazine freebie, which is just as well as if I'd spent money on it I'd be disappointed. I found the formula too watery, and the effect was nothing special. I don't feel it made any difference to my lashes and I might as well have applied water to them. This will be going straight into the bin as soon as I finish this review.
Repurchase? NO

5. Maybelline Mega Plush Volume Express*
I'm a bit unsure about this mascara. I love the wand, the size is perfect for me (although if you have short lashes this might be too big), the bristles perfectly coat each individual lash and give lovely volume without crunchiness. What I don't love is the flexible handle of the brush... It takes a bit of getting used to, and I guess I like a bit more resistance against my lashes when I'm applying mascara.
Repurchase? MAYBE ... haven't made up my mind about the flexible handle yet.

6. L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara
I love love love this mascara... unfortunately it's discontinued so I can only ever find them in discount cosmetic stores or ebay. Why L'Oreal, why did you have to discontinue it? This mascara has the perfect shaped and sized wand, it volumizes, it lengthens, and it doesn't clump my lashes together. It's perfect really.
Repurchase? YES

7. Australis Voluptulash Mascara
This is a comb mascara which I use after I've applied a volumizing mascara. This helps to define my lashes and to comb out any clumps. I'm not a fan of it worn on its on as it gives me spidery lashes, but worn on top of another mascara it's perfect. I love it so much that this is probably my 4th tube.
Repurchase? YES.

Here's a close up of the wands, same order as above.

What's your current favourite mascara? And do you, like me, have several mascaras on the go at any one time?

  1. Gawd I have so many mascaras on the go right now, I have to keep rotating through them all.

My favourites would have to be, Eye of Horus, Revlon Photoready 3D volume and Natio Lash Definition. I am really fussy when it comes to mascara as most make my eyes itch like crazy!

    1. Oh I absolutely want to use Eye of Horus, have heard so many good things about them! And the packaging/advertising with the Egyptian theme just sucks me in! :)

  3. At the moment I have about 9or 10 mascaras. Four of them are still in the packaging and waiting their turn :D My favorite mascara at the moment is L´Oreal Million Lashes, but I really hope that maybe one or more of the new ones that are waiting their turn will be even better.

  9. I love the L'Oreal Voluminous. I didn't know it was discontinued! I buy it all the time, but it's been at least 2-3 months. I'll have to check for the states. Have you tried looking online for it? Maybe Amazon or ebay? It really is the perfect mascara. I also agree with you on the Maybelline plush mascara. I can't stand the flexible wand! Drives me nuts! I need resistance so that it coats evenly. The wand head and the formula are so great, they really ruined it with the bendy wand. :( I really love the Covergirl Flamed Out mascara! It's amazing!

  11. I didn't like any of modelco's mascaras. I still haven't found a mascara I like more than Lancome Hypnose and Shiseido's waterproof mascara

    1. Yeah modelco has been quite disappointing with their mascaras, I think I've tried them all (via magazine freebies) and din't like any.
