How I organise my lipsticks on the cheap

Ages ago I posted about how I store my lipsticks (click HERE for that post). I use a plastic storage container with compartments, which I bought from Bunnings for around $8. You can get similar ones at art supply stores, fabric stores or ebay. I've even seen them at some of the larger supermarkets and they're usually all under $10 and come in various sizes. The one I have is deep enough for me to store my lippies in and still manage to close the lid.

Previously I'd organised my lipsticks based on colour, i.e. nudes in 1 compartment, pinks in another, etc. But then it started getting too messy and confusing for me. For example where do peachy pinks go? Or a nude lipstick with pink undertones? Yes, I know, #firstworldproblems. LOL.

A lot of the time when I'm looking for a lipstick, I have a particular brand in mind. So I decided to organise them by brand. I have my MACs and Illamasquas in the one compartment, I have Aussie brands in another, budget brands in another, etc., and one compartment is saved for glosses.  So far things have been ok, so hopefully this new way of organising will work and will save me valuable time in the mornings when I'm looking for a particular lippy.

  1. What a fab idea! I don't store mine in any particular order because I find it way too confusing haha, I just throw them all in one big box... I'm in need of some storage! Might have to check out Bunnings!

    1. I used to just throw them in the one box but then it became too messy and I could NEVER find anything! Clearly I have too many lippies :)

  6. I also use a box, but it doesn't work as well as your's. I need to find one with dividers so they don't keep falling over each other. haha

  7. I usually store my lipsticks scattered all through the house, but I really like this idea, it's much more space saving than lipstick holders and works just as well.

    1. Even though I have this storage box I still find other lippies scattered all through the house! Or in various handbags! :)

  10. When I clicked into this I was like how is this going to work but it's such an amazing idea! Love that it's deep enough to actually fit them in standing up. What a great idea :)

  11. Great idea! I currently have a cutlery drawer in my IKEA Alex that stores my lipsticks, but it's kind of overflowing now... Will check something like this out, maybe it'll fit in my drawers :)

  12. I use those boxes too for my makeup, sometimes I remove some of the dividers to make bigger spaces.

  14. I honestly only have a few, so I keep them in a small makeup bag. I have been expanding though, this might have to become an option in the future!

  16. I store mine in an empty gold perfume box that fits neatly in my vanity. I don't have as many as you do (probably 20) so I organise them via favourites first, although I do organise via brand as well and this works well!
