Lorac Mint Edition Palette - review and swatches

A few weeks ago Tarraz was offering $10 shipping to Australia from Sephora so I thought I'd take up the offer and make my first online Sephora purchase. After a lot of deliberation I settled on the Lorac Mint Edition Palette because a. I'd never owned anything from Lorac before, and b. the retro mint and silver packaging was too cute to pass up on... yeah, as you can see I do suffer from "judging a book by its cover" syndrome.

The Lorac Mint Edition palette contains 4 x matte eyeshadows, 4 x shimmer eyeshadows, 1 x blush and 1 x highlighter. It also comes with a nude coloured lipgloss which is quite thick and a lovely suit-all shade. I haven't swatched the lipgloss in this post but if you're interested in seeing a swatch let me know in the comments.

The left hand side consists of 4 x matte shades in off-white, nude, mint and black. The middle section contains a highlighter in pink champagne shimmer, and a blush in shimmery coral. The right hand side consists for 4 x shimmer eyeshadows in white, pale shimmery taupe, reddish brown and dark brown. It's quite a large palette, the size of a small clutch.

Firstly, the good bits. The packaging. It is to die for. If I could find myself a clutch bag that looked exactly like it I'd be very happy. It looks so sleek, the combination of mint and silver with black accents is very elegant indeed. Also the blush and highlighter have pretty decent pigmentation and are of wearable colours.

Now to the bad bits. The eyeshadows. Yes, all 8 of them. I found the pigmentation very poor, with lots of fallout and chalkiness. They're the sort of colours that if you apply 3 shades on your eyelid within an hour all 3 will merge into one flat shade because of the fall out. It's such a pity, because the colours are very pretty and the mint shade especially is what got me to buy it in the first place. They do perform somewhat better when applied over a primer, but seriously I'm not a primer user so if I can't get an eyeshadow to work without additional prepping then I'm not using it.

Anyway, lets have a look at some swatches shall we? You can see how chalky the eyeshadows are from my swatches even though the colours are undeniably pretty.

If I could go back in time I would not purchase this. The blush/highlighter are not enough for me to warrant the AUD $52 price tag. And as much as I adore the packaging, I can't really get much use out of it can I?

Have you tried any Lorac products? Any favourites?

But yes, the swatches do look not very pigmented & don't seem like they'll last very long :/

    1. It would make a great clutch wouldn't it? But yep, they don't last long on the eyes at all. Such a shame.

    1. The shipping from tarazz is generally quite expensive, that's why the $10 offer they had before was too good to pass up on!

  5. Such a shame to hear about the poor quality of the LORAC shadows in this palette. I picked up this Lorac sethttp://www.amazon.com/LORAC-Candy-Full-Face-Collection/dp/B0096M873A
last year in the States and I absolutely love it, the quality is fantastic, so it goes to show that it really depends on the palette/product!

  9. That's too bad! The Pro palette is really excellent. Hate when a brand is so inconsistent.
