6 Great Eyeshadows for a Single Colour Smokey Eye

I was going to title this post "The lazy girl's guide to the single colour smokey eye" but then thought it's too long! But yes, these are great eyeshadows for when you're feeling lazy, or time poor, but still want to look like you've made an effort with your makeup. All of these eyeshadows look great worn on their own all over the lid. They don't need a highlight colour or a darker shade to give it shape. They just require some careful blending around the edges and you're done. What makes them so perfect is that they all have a slight shimmer, giving a depth of colour, which plays off with your eyes' natural contours.  Here are my favourites that get a regular workout from me.

Swatches & descriptions

  • Urban Decay in YDK - this is from the Naked 2 palette but also available as a single shadow. It's a burnt caramel shade and it's the one with the most shimmer in this collection.
  • L'Oreal Colour Infallible in Tender Caramel - past review HERE. I absolutely love the L'Oreal Colour Infallibles range, and this colour in particular is a favourite. It's meant to be L/E but I've seen them around the shops all the time so perhaps it's become a permanent. It's slightly darker than UD YDK.
  • MAC Satin Taupe - does this even need any introductions? It's probably a staple in most people's makeup bags. The shimmery taupe with a hint of grey, perfect as a crease colour but even more perfect for a single colour smokey eye.
  • Inglot Pearl #420 - I tend to mainly wear this colour in winter as it's a cooler toned greyish taupe and doesn't look good when I have a summer tan. But when my skin is paler, oh trust me that this gets a workout.
  • Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Illusoire - past review HERE. This deep grey with mauve undertones is one of my absolute favourites, it's the perfect grey shade for warmer toned girls.
  • Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Ebloui - past review HERE. I got this one at a blog sale a while back. It's a warm brown with almost rusty red undertones. It looks perfect worn with a red lip, like I'm wearing in the pic below.

  1. I have yet to find that elusive single smoky eye colour. I should give your suggestions a try.

I hope it's not too rude to do this, but I have a make up blog sale where I'm selling brand new and unused make up. I'm shipping from Sydney. Please take a look and let me know if you're interested in anything. Some brands I'm selling are: Laura Mercier, Stila, Nars, MAC, Revlon, Wet n Wild, Rae Morris and more. 11. I love MAC Satin Taupe! I really want the NAKED 2 palette but I already have the NAKED palette and I don't want to be wasteful. I don't NEED it but I WANT it. *sighs*

  12. My favourite one shade smoky eye is definitely MAC's Shroom. I really want that Chanel one, I have a champagney one, but that one looks gorgeous.

  13. Out of all, I think I would use the Chanel Ebloui the most. Currently I have been using a metallic bronze from the Sleek storm palette for my everyday smokey look. For the night time I could just smudge some black liner, blend some black in the other corner and I'm done.

    Thanks for the post
