Make Up For Ever HD Foundation review - Take 2

When I first bought this Make Up For Ever HD Foundation from IMATS back in 2011, I didn't like it much. Whilst it looked great in photos, in reality it emphasised every dry patch of my skin, and showed up really flaky around my nose area. HERE is my original review of it. So why am I reviewing it again?  Because somehow I ended up really liking this now!

In the last couple of months I've been trying to use up some of the foundations in my very large foundation stash. This MUFE foundation is one that I was keen to use up, as I'd paid a lot of money for it and did not wish to throw it away. And boy am I glad I gave it another chance, as now it's become one of my favourites.

So what's different now? My skin! Back when I first bought this my skin was quite dry and no amount of moisturising would make it better. A heavy and creamy foundation like MAC Studio Sculpt (review HERE) looked good on my dry skin, but a thinner foundation like this MUFE HD just did not work. Now that my skin is normal, this foundation looks beautiful on it. It provides medium coverage, and while it doesn't cover every single blemish on my skin, the end result looks very natural. Kind of like my skin, but better. Here is a picture of how it looks on my skin. Click on the picture to enlarge.

I was colour matched to the shade #120. It's a fairly good match for my NC25 skintone, but next time I purchase it I might go up a shade to #123 which has more olive undertones (this one has yellow undertones).

Moral of the story is - what did not work for you once before, might actually start working for you now, so give things a second chance!

Make Up For Ever is sold at Sephora or if you're in Australia you can buy it from PM Studio. (As far as I know PM Studio are the only place that sell them, so if you know of other stockists let me know!)

Are there any products you didn't like at first but grew to love later?

    1. Thanks for stopping by Sara. As long as your skin isn't normally dry and flaky then you'll love this foundation :)

  4. I remember loving this foundation, years ago. I use to wear it constantly. But after awhile, I started to fall out of love with it. I found that it started to look cakey on, and it just wasn't cooperating with my skin anymore. So glad that you gave it another chance and loved it this time :)

    1. I have a feeling once winter hits here and my skin gets dry again I'll probably no longer wear it. Just goes to show you should have several foundations on hand depending on the season. xo

  5. Hi Lilit, I couldn't agree more that some times something will work for you and sometimes it doesn't. Your skin changes all the time.
Great review, I really enjoy the HD foundation myself.

  9. I have heard many a great things of this foundation floating about, and I have to really try it out. I also have on my to-buy list the Kat Von D lock it foundation. I need to get to a Sephora asap! Thanks for the review. You look beautiful as always. :)

    1. Thanks hun. I haven't heard of the Kat Von D foundation, and unfortunately it's not available in Australia so I don't think I'll get to try it anytime soon. Oh well, I probably don't need another foundation anyway :)

    2. Its supposed to be full coverage, without the cake face. It was made by a woman named Kat Von D who was the tattoo artist star of a reality show. She does a full line of make-up (supposedly opaque enough to cover tattoos) but more notably the foundation and concealers. I have heard of the outrageous prices of make-up in Australia, so I doubt you would want to hunt for it since I did see you foundation stash....I have quite a few as well. I need another foundation, like I need another bill to pay. :) Thanks for following. I was a fan of yours ever before I started blogging. Proud to say, I still am. <3

  10. This looks beautiful, so natural! I had always wanted to try it but never did because of it not being widely accessible, but... hmm, perhaps I'll put it on my wish list now! Xx

  11. wooow it looks so natural on ur skin! I remember I agreed with u in the 1st review about this foundation.. But you're right our skin changes so gotta give things a second chance.. This happened to me with the Korres Wild Rose Foundation.. Didn't like it at first and I actually put it up in my blog sale.. Then I tried it again when no one was interested in buying it and loved it! Used it all up!
