January Bellabox - first impressions

Beauty sample subscriptions are no longer a new concept. In fact Bellabox itself has been around for 12 months and it seems to be one of the few of its kind to last so far. For those that aren't aware of how these subscription boxes work, for $15 a month you get a box of trial sized beauty products sent to you. They can be cosmetics, skincare or haircare items from well known and cult brands.

I was sent the January Bellabox for review, and here's a look at what's inside.

The January Bellabox contains the following products, some of them full sized.
  • Face of Australia Makeup Purifying Cleansing wipes - $4.95 for pack of 25
  • You Me and Everybody Cool It Aloe Vera Gel - $8.95 for 100ml
  • Swisse Body Wash With Vitamin B3 and Macrobiotic Sea Minerals - $14.95 for 250ml
  • Mode nailpolish in Hot Stuff - $2.45
  • Natio Pure Mineral Skin Perfecting BB Cream (sachet) - $14.95 for 50g

So what do I think of this? To be quite honest I was hoping for more makeup products. I'd seen reviews of previous months' Bellaboxes and some contained Lancome, Benefit and Savoir Faire cosmetics. In terms of value though, you do get over $46 worth of products for $15.

Personally sample subscription boxes are not for me. As the focus of these boxes are mainly skincare, these don't suit me as I don't like trialling new skincare products. Makeup, yes, I can never have enough. But when it comes to skincare I tend to stick to a few tried and tested products.

So who are these subscription boxes for? Someone who loves to discover new products, and trial them without comitting too much cash to it. I noticed that Bellabox is also introducing Bellababy (full of baby product samples) and Bellobox for the man in your life.

Have you tried subscription boxes? Which ones do you like?

  2. I was not a fan of this month's box at all, especially when I saw the other variation where some subscribers received an eyeshadow palette or a lip gloss instead of the face wipes. I think I know which I would have preferred...

    1. Oh really? I had no idea some subscribers received different goodies for the SAME month. I'd be upset about it too.

  3. Im exactly the same. I love receiving new makeup to try, but have a box full of unused skincare samples.
I think that the Aloe gel will come in handy this summer though!

  4. I've been a subscriber to both Lust Have It and Bellabox, and after cancelling my LHI a few months ago because of poor quality I'm doing the same for Bellabox. This box felt really cheap, and like you I prefer to stick to what my skin likes with my skincare.
There are 2 more boxes coming out soon too, Violetbox and Her Fashion box.

    1. I heard Her Fashion box is more makeup/accessories, so that might be better for people like us who don't want to try skincare but love the idea of these subscription boxes.

  5. I haven't heard of Bellabox! I've got the birch box, but this seems much better! I'm definitely going to look into it! Thanks! xoxo jenbrownmakeup.blogspot.com

  6. I just cancelled my subscription to bellabox, there have been a few good products but I don't feel it's been consistent enough to spend $15 a month on.
