Help, my hair is falling out... and I bought mum jeans

So ummm... which do you want to hear of first? The hair fall out? or the fact that I bought mum jeans? How about before talking about both I let you have a peek at my adorable 3 month old, who is really the reason for both the hair and the jean issues!

Ok first the hair issues...

When you're pregnant something magical happens to your hair. It gets luscious, shiny and thick. It's actually not magical at all. You know how it's normal for you to lose about 100 hairs a day? It is. Trust me. Well when you're preggers you actually don't lose those 100 or so hairs because of all the hormones. And the result? Thick voluminous hair for the entire pregnancy.

This photo is of me 3 days before I had Luca. See... thick, wavy hair. Bliss.
40 weeks pregnant... see original post HERE

But a couple of months after you have the baby, those 100 hairs per day that you should have lost the past 9 months? Well you start losing them now. BIG TIME. In chunks! In the shower. On the hairbrush. In the baby's tight grip. I know it's normal, but I can't help that worry that maybe I'm losing more than just the amount I should have lost before. I haven't got any bold patches or anything, but I hope it doesn't get that bad! So if anyone has been through this post-birth hair loss, let me know how long till it all went back to normal. Oh and you know how I'm always complaining about my hair being incredibly dry and dehydrated? Well scrap that. My hair is now O.I.L.Y. Or maybe just my scalp is. I'm blaming the post-giving-birth thing again.

See below, how oily and lanky does my hair look now? Aaaghhhh! Oh and do you love the bags under the eyes and the chipped nail polish? Yeah, no time to do my nails or even use my favourite concealer to hide the bags. And you know how in that first photo holding Luca I'm wearing a bright lippy? Yeah that doesn't happen often either. Not unless I want red stains all over the baby's head.

Now to the most troubling issue...  Mum jeans!

Yes I know I'm a mum now, but seriously, I thought I was a lot more fashionable than to buy mum-jeans. But no, I clearly am not. A couple of weeks ago I bought these mum jeans from the ultimate mum store - Katies!

Photo from Katies website

They don't look too bad do they? It's a nice stretchy slim fit jean. But have a look at the waist.

It's elastic! In my defense it makes getting dressed in the mornings at least 5 seconds faster as I don't have to worry about zippers and buttons. And how about all the time saved when I have to go to the loo? Oh yeah! That's a good 30 - 45 seconds saved per day! Geez I should start a hobby with all that time I'm saving. Plus I figured I always wear longish tops with it so it's not like anyone will know. Unless of course you read my blog, which means everytime you see me now you're going to wonder if those are mum-jeans I have on.

And you know what else is fab about these jeans? Because Katies sizes seem to measure large, I'm actually wearing my usual pre-pregnancy size and that makes this new mama feel good :) So good in fact that the day after I bought these jeans I went back and bought another pair. My name is Lilit, and I'm a mum-jeansaholic.

Have you had post pregnancy hair loss? Let me know when it all went back to normal for you. What about mum jeans? Am I the only one actually enjoying wearing high elastic wasted jeans?

  2. what a sweetheart. I totally understand both issues. I had twins 18 months after my first son so I had the hair loss and lived in leggings and mum jeans. I am slowly getting back into fashion as my kids get older and I have more time to myself. I didnt find many things to help with my hair loss but it stopped after a few months.

  3. Hello darling Luca! xx

Oh who cares what jeans they are? As long as they make you look and feel good, that's most important. Plus no one would know the difference anyway. You're one hot looking mama! :D

  5. thin lanky hair is my hair all the time, if I can have a little bite more thickness with my hair I wouldn't mind at all. I can only use cert-on shampoo because than it becomes a grease slick.

  6. I'm not a mum, but hey, if mum jeans are comfy - GO FORTH AND BUY MORE! Look at all that time saved!

As for your hair - I've learned through friends that if your foot falls off during or post pregnancy, it's completely normal. Our bodies are strange strange things. x

  9. i also had a massive after-pregnancy hair lost. and it stopped when i started to eat vitamins. i wanted to have some hair vitamins but they told me in the pharmacy that i cannot have these while breastfeeding. so they gave mi some pregnancy vitamins (these are also meant for breastfeeding)... and it helped! in one week! unbelievable!

  10. Man. I am going through the hair loss right now myself and it is so annoying. Poor Isaac is going mental as he ALWAYS has a strand of my hair in him somewhere - wrapped around his fingers, or around his dummy (that pisses him off the most!) or the other day I swear he pulled one of my hairs out if his packet of crackers...well I hope it was my hair! My hair is really curly so you can't actually notice the hair loss on my head - just in the sink, on my brush, in out bed...I didn't do anything to stop it with Isaac and either it eventually stops, or you get used to it or you get pregnant again!! Kiki is now just about 6 months and my hair is still falling so expect another couple of months of it!

  12. Haha oh isn't Luca a precious little muffin! You look so stunning, he is going to be so proud of his MILF mumma!
My hair hasn't started falling out yet- but it is quite fair so I wouldn't know, really. Bags under the eyes... OH YEAH! And chipped polish, horrible regrowth... the list goes on! Oh, and I can't even think of fitting into jeans yet! Lol! The joys of motherhood, hey!

  14. Hello, I read your blog but never comment - it's great by the way:-) I just thought i'd pass on that another blogger i read MissBudgetBeauty had the same hair problems after her baby and did various posts and youtube videos about different hair products she tried & tested to stop the hair loss. Hope this helps :-)
P.S. I like the jeans and they're not Mumsy at all - once you wear them right!

Oh and the jeans are super comfy AND don't look mumsy when worn with a long top so can't complain.

  15. Hi,i follow your blog.I had this prob too but being a doctor I was able to handle it better.

No matter which miracle hair product you use it is NOT going to help because the increased level of hormones during pregnancy is coming down now.your baby is three months old and this is when your hormone levels return to normal. Don't worry or fret.
Just improve your diet.Use a multi-vitamin supplement.Take advice from your doctor.Eat a handful of almonds everyday(contain thiamine. Keeps hair healthy ).Drink milk,Eat red meat.
You might even develop bald patches but but but,it will go away in two months or so.just hang in there and you will get your hair back. :-)

  16. i had severe hair loss at 4 months after having my twins. i decided to cut my hair short, from waist-length to short bob, with LUSH NEW! HAIR solid shampoo as my savior. in only 2 months, new hair started to grow + no more hair loss & my family/friends kept asking, "why do you have so many new hair?"

oh, and yes, with post-twin pregnancy skin, i definitely prefer high-waisted elastic jeans now!

  17. Luca is gorgeous and I think you look gorgeous even though you're tired! I honestly think mum jeans would be awesome, I'd like to wear them for the no zipper factor and I have this bad habit of always just pulling my jeans on and off without undoing the button or the zip because I can't be bothered and I end up stretching them out and damaging my jeans.

    1. LOL, how lazy we are that we can't be bothered to unzip the jeans. Although when you're in a hurry those couple of seconds are just too long! LOL.

I dont know the name of it in English, but you could investigate :p... U look gorgeous in the pic... Nice post and cute baby ;)

  20. My hair started falling out when babies were about 3 months and lasted until they were about 6. My friends told me I'd loose hair but I didn't realize how much! I don't think vitamins or shampoo will help. It's totally related to hormones. I just want to assure you, it'll be ok! The babies are 9 months now and my only hair problem is finding the time and energy to actually fix it! Hurray for mom jeans. I have them too!
