Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Illusoire

Ever since I got my first Illusion D'Ombre (in Ebloui, reviewed HERE) from Jen's blog sale I've wanted to get another colour, the purply silver shade called Illusoire to be precise.

Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Illusoire
The reason I wanted to get this colour in particular is because I knew this unique shade would look fantastic worn on its own. Let's face it, when you're 38 weeks preggers the last thing you want is to stand in front of the mirror for hours blending eyeshadows. Actually you don't have to be pregnant to appreciate how easy and quick it is to create a gorgeous eye look with just this one eyeshadow.

What I like about it
  • Texture - the soft texture feels very luxe when you apply it
  • Colour and shimmer - the colour is quite unique, and the shimmer just makes it look great worn on its own
  • Ease of application - you can't really mess up this eyeshadow, it's very very easy to apply

What I don't like about it
  • Price - If I could find this exact shade in the L'Oreal Colour Infallibles range I would have bought that instead, as I still think the quality of the L'Oreal is overall better than the Chanel. HERE is my comparison of the two.
  • Pigmentation - even though it's quite pigmented, you need several goes with the brush to transfer the colour onto the lid.
  • Lasting power - There is noticeable fading after about 8 hours and for something so pricey I expected more.

Here are some swatches below in various lighting. I know it looks extremely pigmented in the swatches, but you don't get the same level of pigmentation using a brush.

And below is a quick smokey eye using only Chanel Illusoire and mascara. So even though it's pricey and you need several goes with a brush to get the colour to deposit on the lid, the fact that it looks like I've made a lot more effort than I actually have makes this a winner in my eyes. Top pic is with no flash, bottom pic is with flash.

Have you tried the Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Eyeshadows?

    1. That's how I feel too about the price and the quality, that's why I prefer the cheaper Loreals which last so much longer on me.

    1. I find the Loreals easier to apply and last longer... plus the fact that they're a 3rd of the price of the chanels! LOL.

  10. You may find them easier to apply with your fingers.

I also found that I had to experiment to find which brush works best with them. I like to use my Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush :)

Beautiful colour and I agree it is great to wear on its own.

    1. So far using a sponge tipped applicator gives the best application, but you're right, I need to experiment with a few other brushes and see what works best.

  12. My first Chanel purchase for myself and it was this product, also in the shade Illusoire. Beautiful colour which I can't get over... but it's true, need a bit more work to get it "popping" on my eyes. Although, I just feel so good everytime I wear it... maybe it's the colour, the ease that one shade can make it work...
