DIY your own nailpolish with eyeshadow!

As you've probably figured out by now, I'm quite enjoying craft and DIY at the moment. When I have any energy left in between work (can't wait for maternity leave to start), house stuff and dragging an 8 month preggy belly around I look for quick and easy DIY projects that I can do. After seeing this post on Delighted Momma, I knew I had to give this one a go as it looked very simple and didn''t require much energy.

How to make your own nail polish with eyeshadow

Notes:
  • You can use a clear nail polish or even a clear top coat. I used a half full bottle of top coat which I was no longer using.
  • Make sure you crush the eyeshadow until you get a fine powder so it mixes well in the polish.
  • How much eyeshadow you add depends on the pigmentation of the product you're working with. Don't be afraid to mix your colours too!
  • How long the mixed polish will take to dry, or last on your nails, will depend on the quality of the clear polish base. Because mine was an old top coat that was getting gluggy, it took about 15 minutes between coats.
  • You can even use this same technique to create your own glitter top coat, just add glittery eyeshadow to the clear base.

Hope you enjoyed this very simple and quick DIY nail polish! Let me know what you think.

PS: Have you made any of my past DIYs?
If you have, I'd love to showcase them here on Makeup and Macaroons with full credits to you of course, which means more exposure for your blog. HERE is where my previous DIYs can be found.

Just email me at lilitsblog{at}gmail{dot}com the link to your post of the DIY and I'll display them here with an active link back to your blog. If you don't have a blog but would still like to participate, feel free to send me the picture and I can still show it here with your permission.

  4. What a brilliant idea! I love all of your DIY posts - I myself am not particularly creative and crafty but you certainly inspire me to start making jewellery, accessories and now nail polish! I also think the showcase is such a great idea, it will be lovely to see other people's creations.

  5. Wow I never would have thought to use eye shadow in a clear polish.. glitter yes, eyeshadow no. I love this!!! It would be especially easy to use some of my pigments (which I will probably never use up!) to make a nail polish. I'm super inspired now! haha

  6. I love it!!! Lovely idea to use up all of my old eyeshadows- you know, when I look at them I always feel guilty for not using them up/not choosing the colours wisely so as to use them... I'm definitely going to do this DIY! Thanks, Lilit ;)

    1. I know, I feel the same guilty way when I look at all my eyeshadows so this would be a good way of using them up.

    1. Might work even better as they're generally more pigmented than normal shadows. Will need to give it a go I guess :-)
