I really like the idea of a dry shampoo, the fact that you can freshen your hair in between washes hence also be kind to your hair by not washing every day. The problem is I have dark brown/black hair and most dry shampoos leave white powder residue in my hair that no matter what I can't brush out.
So when I saw that Batiste now makes coloured dry shampoos I thought brilliant, this is what I've been looking for. It comes in Brown and Black and I thought I'd be on the safe side and buy the Black one.
I've tried it several times over the last month and here are my thoughts...
Colour - it sprays a dark grey powder into the hair which is somewhat easier to brush out than the original formulas, however it still leaves my hair looking powdery and dull...see below (sorry, it looks kinda eeky but I had to post it to show you the powderiness)
Performance - I actually think the original formula is far better at getting rid of oily roots but unfortunately it's too white for my hair. When I use this one, after about 6 hours or so my hair feels oily again, not as bad as say not using it at all but not as good after using the original one.
I wish I liked it better, and to be quite honest I will keep buying it because I do want to give my hair a break from everyday washing and the alternative is a.oily hair or b.white powdery hair. And in terms of price I think it's around $12AUD at Priceline, $3 more than their original version. If I find a better product at a reasonable price I'm switching!
Have you tried this dry shampoo? Is there a better one that you recommend for dark hair?

For dark hair I really like Lee Stafford dry shampoo - it's colourless but works brilliantly and smells quite nice too! I've tried batiste ones but I just don't get on with them, for the same reasons as you... xo
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie Marie, I've never tried Lee Stafford even though I see it all the time. Next time I see it I might pick one up.

Oh nooooo. I completely understand how you feel about that. I have red thick short hair and unless I brush like crazy, most dry shampoos leave a residue. However, here's one I really like:
ReplyDeleteTresemme Fresh Start Waterless Foam Shampoo/ IT's great cause it's not a powder but make sure you don't use too much!
Thanks for the great post!
Oh I have the same problem as you with the grey roots, this dry shampoo looks amazing for this! Thank you for this review! x
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up Christina. I don't think that tresemme one has reached our shores yet but I'll keep a look out.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gaby, it's annoying that not many dry shampoo brands are targetting the dark haired market yet.

It does tend to make hair look dull/gray!
ReplyDelete@vintage Makeup - yeah not a huge fan but it'll have to do unntil I find something better.
ReplyDeleteI've tried the Batiste Dry shampoo in 'Tropical' and I really liked it especially the scent. But as you said, it does get quite powdery on my hair too. Luckily now my hair is much lighter than what it was previously so I can get away with it.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear this one only lasts 6hours! It seems like a great concept though :D
